washingtonpost.com has put up its redesign today. I like the cleanness of the design and the page breathes a lot more with more white space. The side bar of navigation links has been replaced by drop-down menus on the top navigation. While I despise drop-down menus, I honestly can say that I never used the side menus, so I’m glad they are gone.
The three columns at the bottom of the page are a nice organization to all the links shown near the bottom. They seem to be using red more on the page. I’m not sure I like this since it reduces the value of red to emphasize items. Also, the extra space on the page allows for more headlines.
Overall, the design nothing radical, but a nice refinement. Good home page design works this way – create a nice strong base page and then refine.
