After reading about someone creating the LA Times Addict blog on BoingBoing, I thought The Des Moines Register needed one too. (Of course, it appears the LA Times Addict blog is gone – so maybe my foray into this will end quickly.)
Before we start with a daily dissection and commentary on The Des Moines Register, let me explain where I’m coming from on this idea. First, this project comes from my heart, I love newspapers. At their best, newspapers bring a view of world into each reader’s home that serves to broaden perspectives and transport people to new places. I intend to point just as much good in the paper as bad. Second, I used to work at the Register. It was for only 6 months, but it gave me some perspective on the challenges of running a daily paper. Finally, this will be a trial basis – I have a 6 week free subscription to the paper (I only pay for a Sat/Sun subscription).
