Some notes from last week

Reading Time: 1

It was nice to see some agricultural news hit the front page. Philip Brasher did a nice piece on the use of ethanol in Indy 500 race cars. This is the kind of unique coverage the Register is poised to do – now they just need to capitalize on it more.

Also, there was a great piece in the IowaLife on Sunday by Mike Kilen (the Register’s best feature writer) about the search for a new director at the Writer’s Workshop at U of I. The writing in this piece is great with lines like

With the last of four candidates for Conroy’s job being interviewed on campus Monday, it is almost as if the city were waiting for the smoke to rise, signaling a new pope.

I highly recommend reading anything Mike Killen writes. He’s a much better writer than those who garner the most attention. (e.g. Erin Crawford or Kyle Munson)
