I recently increased my media diet to include the Sunday New York Times and the online Wall Street Journal. This brings my total number of paid news subscription up to five. They are:
- Christian Science Monitor
- The Sunday Des Moines Register
- The Wall Street Journal
- Salon
- The New York Times – Sunday
On a daily basis, I also read washingtonpost.com and DesMoinesRegister.com. Both of which are free (or at least advertising supported).
So after looking at my mix of news consumption (and I only maybe an hour of television a week), I would say that paid subscriptions are worth it. The content coming from the above list is deeper, more well researched, and better written that most of the free content out there.
