New Law Day

Reading Time: 1

As many already know, tomorrow (July 1) is the day many new Iowa state laws go into effect. I’m sure most are aware that the speed limit on rural interstates will go up to 70 MPH. But take a look at the list of passed laws for 2005. Here are few that stand out to me – either because they affect me or because they indicate that the legislative session should be shortened.

  • SF206 – More deer hunting
  • SF320 – Realtors better make sure you don’t have any criminal history – FBI background checks for new real estate broker licenses
  • SF389 – Tax credits for soy-based cutting tool oil
  • SF405 – An interior design board to license interior designers???
  • HF614 – Iowa’s anti-spyware legislation. To you geeks, read this legislation; it’s loaded with computer technical terms that rarely show up in legislation (e.g. “web proxy”, “bookmarks”, “keystroke-logging function”) – do these terms work in court?
  • HF834 – Finally, we’re going to get standards and regulations for “commercial cleaning of toilet units”

Happy July 1st.
